Checking out the Bar Scenes in Washington, DC

We hooked up with some visiting friends and hit a couple of spots on the West end of town near Foggy Bottom.
First up was - A Bar located inside the Avenue Suites. I really liked the layout of this place. Although the bar is small, there is lounge seating and a spacious patio/terrace area.
Brennan Adams is the bar manager (who also happens to be reprenting DC in Las Vegas for Bombay Sapphire's Most Imaginative Bartender. First prize includes a full spread in the 2012 GQ magazine and a spot in the World finals).  He was able to take the time to make a couple of drinks for us, showing off his Liquid Nitrogen cocktails to boot.

Next up was-  District Commons American Tavern - is  walking distance from " A Bar "

All in all it was a good time. The bartender seemed a bit standoffish at first (I'm sure he was thrilled to see a group of 15 walk in 20 minutes before last call), but by the end of it he was cool.

After all that drinking, Duane and I  stopped in at Mings Chinese restaurant in Chinatown for a quick bite.  They close at 4.00am so keep them in mind when you're hungry and its late.  I lived in NY for over 15 years and I am happy to have finally found food close to what was served in Chinatown Manhattan in NY.  I must say I was pleasantly surprised, Mings food is really outstanding.

Fried rice, string beans and roast duck is a great combination.
